Friday's Poem or Short Story Prompt: The Word "fetch"

This blog is devoted to a select group of poets. We're starting with poets from the Ann Arbor area, but, hey, if you're from Detroit, Grand Rapids, Saginaw or the Upper Peninsula, then that is okay, too.

Our goal is to provide you with a prompt every day from which you are to garner inspiration and submit a poem. How to submit will be very easy.  Just put your poem or short story  in the comments section and hit post. You may not immediately see your post, but it is there under the "Comments" section. You may need to click on "Comments" to see your poem.  It is there on another page.
You may need to have a Gmail account to post in the comments section.  Most of you do have Gmail, but for those of you that don't it's extremely worthwhile to open up one now!  That way you've got a chance to get your work out there in the world.

Today's poem or short story prompt is the word "fetch"

  1. Fetch or Play Ball

    All sunsets contain a tragedy
    The simplest yellow
    The pink fleshy toll
    The red delight
A few moments where time could stop
    If time wanted to

  4. SPRING CLEANING

    My dog
    Our dog
She evidently doesn't quite understand Spring Cleaning
    or new movies

I sat her down the other day and talked to her
    She pretended to listen
    - much like kids and the guy at the auto repair shop;

She took up exactly the right amount of sofa
    And nodded, wagging her tail
But as soon as we left to go to the movie (
we wanted to see it on opening day
just so we could say that we'd seen
it on opening day, which - in retrospect -
is probably not the best reason to stand
in line for twenty minutes and then squeeze
into a crowded theatre, with people packed
so tight I could taste the nacho cheese
(or "not-yo cheese") the short guy three rows down
was dripping on his Metallica shirt
), she got into the trash
and dragged it all over the house.

    again
    again
    again
    again

    When I put her outside
    as "punishment"
    she brought me a stick

She thought we had gone outside to play 'fetch'.
I'm pretty sure she just doesn't get it.
