Today's Poem or Short Story Prompt: The Word "Green"

This blog is devoted to a select group of poets. We're starting with poets from the Ann Arbor area, but, hey, if you're from Detroit, Grand Rapids, Saginaw or the Upper Peninsula, then that is okay, too.

Our goal is to provide you with a prompt every day from which you are to garner inspiration and submit a poem. How to submit will be very easy.  Just put your poem or short story  in the comments section and hit post. You may not immediately see your post, but it is there under the "Comments" section. You may need to click on "Comments" to see your poem.  It is there on another page.

You may need to have a Gmail or Yahoo account to post in the comments section.  Most of you do have Gmail or Yahoo email, but for those of you that don't it's extremely worthwhile to open up an account now!  That way you've got a chance to get your work out there in the world.

Today's poem or short story prompt is the word "green".

  1. Mistake

I like to think of you as a brief
    horrible mistake
    An awful slip-up
    A calculation gone wrong
    A mistake nonetheless
    With lasting consequences
    A resident for a time
    Whose references checked out
(I took those references at face value)
    Yet only to learn later
    You received such glowing accounts
    Because no one knew how
To free themselves from your clutches
Except to pass you on to me.

  2. THAT LOOK

    isn't envy
    it isn't jealousy
    it's just confusion

    why him/her instead of me?
    i'll keep showing up
    and waiting
    and wondering
if i'm just missing some subtle thing
some trick, some arcane bit of conjuring
that makes it all fall into place

    oh well
    win some lose some, right?

    but i'm not jealous

    that's my story
    and I'm sticking with it
