Today's Poem or Short Story Prompt: The Word "Movie"

This blog is devoted to a select group of poets. We're starting with poets from the Ann Arbor area, but, hey, if you're from Detroit, Grand Rapids, Saginaw or the Upper Peninsula, then that is okay, too.

Our goal is to provide you with a prompt every day from which you are to garner inspiration and submit a poem. How to submit will be very easy.  Just put your poem or short story  in the comments section and hit post. You may not immediately see your post, but it is there under the "Comments" section. You may need to click on "Comments" to see your poem.  It is there on another page.

You may need to have a Gmail or Yahoo account to post in the comments section.  Most of you do have Gmail or Yahoo email, but for those of you that don't it's extremely worthwhile to open up an account now!  That way you've got a chance to get your work out there in the world.

Today's poem or short story prompt is the word "movie".

  1. Movies, Not Films

    No one is past twenty
Money doesn't appear to be a problem
Most of the girls defer to the boy's choice
The line for the action movie
    Winds out the door
    The movie about two lovers
Who visit Paris when they are young
    Then visit again
    On their twenthieth wedding anniversary
Has a shorter line of girls
Who glance about the lobby constantly
Looking for people they might know
A few boys hold the hand of their date
    Everyone has a phone
That requires a type of intimate involvement
    Attention dutiful response
    Like being on call
Ready to speed to the hospital
For a birth or a death of a loved one

    A pleading message in
    The coming attractions
    Begs moviegoers to turn off
    All electronic devices
Only the most rebellious will comply

  2. A LARGE STACK OF PAPERS
TYPED ON AN OLD ROYAL QUIET DELUXE
    WHICH IS STILL SOMEWHERE
    IN THE BASEMENT

There are four screenplays living in my head
There were others but they left
    They complained before they left
that their living space was cramped
       and dirty
and that they didn't like the other screenplays
       some of whom were bullies
and some of whom were just lost and confused
and at least one of whom smelled of Old Spice

The ones who stayed will leave eventually
when they realize that I left the door open

Right now, they seem to be busy playing videogames
